چکیده

Background The Sossego mine, located in Canaã dos Carajás, Pará, Brazil, has a pond of wastes with low copper concentrations economically unfeasable for extraction. In this place, we can improve environmental conditions and, at the same time, recover part of the ore diluted in these wastes, through evaluation and use of the local biodiversity, in bioremediation processes, once the use of this technology, will allow the decontamination as well the recovery of these metals with high value. Once there are some restrictions on the microorganisms introduction in the environment, it is important to establish the bioremediation potential of native species from a particular location. Therefore, it is necessary to study the biodegradation processes or biotransformation of compounds in the microbial biodiversity already adapted that are responsible for these processes in the environment, first in a bench scale[1]. In this work, among the 22 strains isolated from environmental samples from a copper mine, two of them presented great potential for bioremediation. Strains were identified and both were subjected to comparative study of their bioremediation potential and showed good results in concentrations up to 320ppm of copper.

Drug Resistance of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Enterobacter cloacae Isolated from ICU, Babol, Northern Iran

Multidrug resistant (MDR) bacteria are spread through the world which causes nosocomial infections, especially in Intensive Care Unit (ICU). This study aimed to investigate resistance pattern of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Enterobacter cloacae isolated from patients in ICU. During 2011-2012, 30 isolates for each P. aeruginosa and E. cloacae were collected from patients who acquired nosocomial in...

Isolation and molecular characterization of bacteria to heavy metals isolated from soil samples in Bokaro Coal Mines, India

In recent years, environmental pollution by coal mining is a long-established human activity affecting all levels of life with various environmental impacts by generating heavy metals. The presence of heavy metals even in trace amount is toxic and detrimental to all living organisms. The coal mine area in Bokaro is one of the “Toxic Hotspot” in India. Bacteria have evolved uptake and efflux mec...

Isolation, Identification and Evaluation of Oil Hydrocarbon Decomposing Bacteria from Contaminated Areas of Oil Fields

Microbialbiodegradation is known as an effective and harmless method to overcome environmental pollution with oil hydrocarbon. Some bacterial species were isolated from the Sarvestan oilfields (Iran, Fars province), then identified and applied for oil hydrocarbon decomposition. A carbon-free minimum medium (CFMM) containing 1% crude oil was used to isolate bacteria through incubation at 30°C in...

Comparison among the Efficiency of Different Bioremediation Technologies of Atrazine–Contaminated Soils

In a previous study by the authors, toxicity screening of Atrazine-resistant soil bacteria from different contaminated soils resulted in 23-soil isolate best grown in the presence of herbicide Atrazine. They were identified according to their 16S rDNA sequencing into Enterobacter (E. cloacae), Bacillus (B. cereus and B. anthracis), Pseudomonas (P. aeruginosa, P. balearica, P. indica and P. otit...
